SLED Charges Second Former Custody Officer in Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult Case

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Javin Lashaun Carter-Wicks, 23, with Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. The SLED investigation resulted from a notification from Wellpath Recovery Solutions. Wellpath Recovery Solutions is contracted as a psychiatric hospital through the South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities - Office of Intellectual Disability.

Carter-Wicks was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County.
The case will be prosecuted by the 5th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
SLED previously charged Gregory Marcel Higgins, 44, with Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, in connection with this case.
