SLED Charges Three People in Richland County Following Dog Fighting Investigation

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Markus Anjawn Brown, 47, with Criminal Conspiracy and Animal Fighting on Thursday, June 12, 2025. On Friday, June 13, 2025, Brown was charged with seven counts of Ill Treatment of Animals and seven counts of Animal Fighting.

SLED also charged Lucille Oree, 69, with Criminal Conspiracy and Ill Treatment of Animals, and Kionna Rakayla Grant, 27, with Criminal Conspiracy, seven counts of Ill Treatment of Animals, and seven counts of Animal Fighting on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

A total of 23 dogs, including six puppies, were seized on Thursday from two Richland County residences. SLED’s Dog Fighting Unit was assisted by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and the Humane World for Animals.

Brown was booked into the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center in Sumter County.

Oree and Grant were booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County.

The case will be prosecuted by the 5th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
