SLED Investigating Officer Involved Shooting in Aiken County

Tuesday, Oct 6, 2026

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred on Monday, October 5, 2026, in Aiken County.

Aiken County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home on Scotch Lane in Aiken, SC, following a hit-and-run. The hit-and-run involved a gray Chevrolet truck hitting a convenience store earlier that day. Deputies also received a call for service earlier that day involving a disturbance at a different convenience store. Deputies confirmed the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run was registered to a woman who lived at the home on Scotch Lane, and the same woman was involved in the earlier convenience store disturbance. When deputies arrived outside the home, a woman drove up in a gray truck, and deputies approached the vehicle. The woman struck a deputy’s vehicle, drove off, and deputies followed. After a short pursuit, the woman opened the driver’s side door and shot a deputy. She then ran over the deputy with her truck. Deputies returned fire and shot her. Both the subject and the deputy were taken to the hospital for treatment. The subject died at the hospital, and the deputy is recovering. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Amanda Buckner, 38. SLED was requested to investigate by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

This is an ongoing investigation. As such, no other information about the case will be disclosed by SLED at this time.

SLED conducts law enforcement officer involved shooting (OIS) investigations at the request of the agency involved in the incident or the agency with jurisdiction. When requested to investigate an OIS, SLED’s goal is to conduct a thorough, independent criminal investigation as timely as is possible under the circumstances. SLED agents will conduct interviews with all potential witnesses in this matter. Further, SLED will collect all relevant evidence and will forensically test such evidence as needed. Information gathered in the SLED investigation of the incident will be summarized in a case file report to be submitted to prosecutors.

The incident in Aiken County is the 31st officer involved shooting in South Carolina in 2026.

This is the 3rd officer involved shooting for the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office this year.

In 2025, there were 45 officer involved shootings in South Carolina.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office had 2 officer involved shootings last year.
