SLED charges 3 former Berkeley County sheriff's office detention deputies

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Avery Richard Smith, 23, with Criminal Sexual Conduct 1st degree, 2 counts of Misconduct in Office, 3 counts of Assault and Battery 1st degree, and 5 counts of Assault and Battery 3rd degree. SLED also charged Christopher Dozier III., 43, with Misconduct in Office, and Frankie Levar Snider, 45, with Misconduct in Office. All subjects were charged on Thursday, June 27, 2024.

Smith, Dozier, and Snider were booked into the Berkeley County Detention Center.
The case will be prosecuted by the 9th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
SLED was requested to investigate by the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
