SLED charges former Aiken County chief deputy coroner with misconduct in office and possession of a controlled substance

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Alton Jeffery Smith, 60, with Misconduct in Office, and Possession of a Controlled Substance, Schedule I to V – 1st offense.
Details can be found in the attached warrants.
Smith was booked into the Aiken County Detention Center.
The case will be prosecuted by the 2nd Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
