SLED Charges Former Custody Officer with Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Gregory Marcel Higgins, 44, with Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. The SLED investigation resulted from a notification from Wellpath Recovery Solutions. Wellpath Recovery Solutions is contracted as a psychiatric hospital through the South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities - Office of Intellectual Disability.

Higgins was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County.
The case will be prosecuted by the 5th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
