SLED Charges Two Former Direct Support Professionals with Neglect of a Vulnerable Adult in Unrelated Cases, at the Same Facility

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Deatrice Nichole Brown, 39, with Neglect of a Vulnerable Adult on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
SLED also charged Samuel Emanuel Hickson, 41, with Neglect of a Vulnerable Adult on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
The Pee Dee Regional Center, a state-operated facility for the Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, requested the SLED investigation for both cases.
Details for both Brown’s and Hickson’s cases can be found in the attached warrants.
Both Brown and Hickson were booked into the Florence County Detention Center.
The cases will be prosecuted by the 12th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
