SLED’S 2024 CALEA Accreditation Public Comment Portal
Monday, Jul 1, 2024
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division(SLED) will host an online public comment portal in accordance with maintaining accreditation with The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, INC. (CALEA).
The purpose of CALEA is to provide an agency with a system of professional standards that promotes integrity and accountability within the agency and to the public whom it serves. The purpose of the CALEA portal is to receive public comments regarding an agency’s compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the delivery of public safety services within the community, and overall candidacy for accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns.
The online portal will be active from July 1, 2024 – August 30, 2024.
The CALEA portal is NOT a way to report a crime or supply tips on a SLED investigation. Please call 911/contact local law enforcement in an emergency. CALEA is not an investigatory body and does not act as such.
SLED was first accredited by CALEA on March 26, 1994. SLED has continually been accredited by CALEA at the end of each accreditation cycle. In March of 2024, the CALEA Commission unanimously voted to grant accredited status to SLED and SLED was awarded the CALEA Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation and achieved the Accreditation with Excellence Award.
